ROCK SOLID WARRIOR Published Dec. 1, 2008 386th Expeditionary Communications Squadron SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Tech. Sgt. Jamie Hedrick Base Records manager (For official Use Only) and Base Client Support Administrator Training manager Home unit/base: 37th Communications Squadron, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas How do you support the mission here? I ensure that all records here are in compliance with Department of Defense regulations and Air Force instructions, to include training Functional Area Records managers (FARMs) and staging records. I am also the point of contact for Air Forces Central Records Management office. I reformat and post all wing instructions, answer Freedom of Information Act requests and ensure Privacy Act information is protected. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my fourth deployment. This deployment is unique because I am learning a part of the 3A career field that most 3As don't get an opportunity to do. I am sitting in a job where I am learning new things every day, and I have a wonderful bunch of FARMs that make it easier to do my job. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? Here I deal with a part of our air force specialty that is largely forgotten. Most 3A0s work the computer side of our job now and don't ever have the opportunity to work records management and publications. Records management in the deployed environment is a little different than what we are used to at home station. Here records cannot be destroyed, and everything must be staged at Shaw AFB, S.C. It is really important to maintain good record keeping because of the high turnover rate and because of the importance of records in reference to Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
