ROCK SOLID WARRIOR

Staff Sgt. Wendy Jones

S4A, Armory NCO in charge

Home unit/base: 30th Security Forces Squadron, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.

How do you support the mission here? I'm responsible for the accountability and serviceability for over 400 weapons systems and 74,002 rounds of ammunition. I also maintain the land mobile radio accounts, oversee the training and supervision of 10 flight armorers and the issue and accountability of several thousand dollars worth of related equipment.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? I have deployed five times in my career. It is unique to me because the level of responsibility I have is much greater, and the unique mission here is different from the previous deployments I have had.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? I am a Combat Arms instructor at Vandenberg AFB. I thought at the time that I had the best job in the Air Force. I mean it could not get any better than teaching many people how to save their own lives...right? Here I have learned what a combined wing and group effort can be and how everyone's intricate part plays a significant role in the Air Force big picture with the War on Terrorism mission. At home station, I am only able to see what product I put out rather than seeing how it works day in and day out.
