ROCK SOLID WARRIOR Published Sept. 22, 2008 386th Expeditionary Medical Group SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Staff Sgt. Antoni Pinlac Combat Stress Team NCO in charge Home unit/base: 60th Inpatient Squadron, Travis Air Force Base, Calif. How do you support the mission here? I am serving as part of a two-man team responsible for the mental health wellness for all Air Force units and sister services through outreach and intervention practice. I supplement the integrated support that the chain of command and chaplains provide to all those serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my first deployment. The experience, knowledge and camaraderie have been the most unique. I have had the opportunity to utilize my training and see first hand the effects of managing stress well in a deployed setting. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? At home station, I work at one of the last two inpatient psychiatric units. The clientele and issues at a deployed location are much milder than at home base. It shows that people are able to cope well with deployment stress and have excellent support systems.
