ROCK SOLID WARRIOR Published Sept. 12, 2008 386th Expeditionary Communications Squadron SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Senior Airman Robert Westcott Communication Focal Point technician Home unit/base: 914th Communication Squadron, Niagara Falls Air Reserve Base, N.Y. How do you support the mission here? I provide support by being the first line of defense for all incoming base communication issues. Our Communication Focal Point team has a 95 percent success rate at solving communication problems before having to involve one of our back shops. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my first deployment. It has been unique because I've had the opportunity to meet with, and learn from, so many people who have such different experiences and background knowledge. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? Being a traditional Reservist at home, the environment overseas really provides me with a chance to sponge in all types of knowledge I could never get with technical training. It really gives me an opportunity to understand where communications support fits in to the deployed mission.
