Tech. Sgt. Gordon Martin

S-4 Logistics superintendent

Home station unit/base: 325th Security Forces Squadron, Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla.

How do you support the mission here? I manage the entire 387th ESFS unit's travel itineraries and maintain the unit's weapons, to include the storage, maintenance and training requirements. I also have oversight of the entire 387th ESFS vehicle fleet. I maintain the unit supplies and equipment, ammunition and work orders, which include many large projects required to defend and safeguard one of the busiest bases in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my second deployment. My current superintendent duty position allows me to really see the many positive impacts on our troops, especially those out there on the flightline. It has led to this being the most rewarding job of my career.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? At Tyndall AFB I was the resource advisor for a medium-sized security forces squadron. At the time, I was responsible for all of the unit's purchases, and paying all the bills. Here at the 387th ESFS, I have been given many more responsibilities and duties. Instead of just purchasing items at my home station, I am now in charge of all the aspects of the S-4 section and find new challenges daily. It has made it an outstanding but quick six-month deployment.
