ROCK SOLID WARRIOR Published Aug. 15, 2008 586th Air Expeditionary Group SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Master Sgt. Daren Pierce Resource advisor and Group Supply lead Home unit/base: 15th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii How do you support the mission here? As the 586th AEG resource advisor, I'm solely responsible for all acquisitioning and contract purchase requirements. This includes the logistical movement of supplies and cargo for 1,200 personnel operating in three separate geographical locations throughout bases in Southwest Asia. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my fourth deployment. The one thing that makes this particular deployment different from the others is the unique mission of the 586th AEG. All of our Airmen support "in-lieu-of" Army missions fulfilling taskings such as line-haul convoys, area security patrols in Iraq and detainee visitation for U.S. Central Command's largest internment facility. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? You have to be creative and flexible in a deployed environment, especially when working with sister services. At my home station, I primarily support the Air Force logistics piece for aviation; however, this deployment is the exact opposite. I provide direct supply support to our combat Airmen on the ground.
