ROCK SOLID WARRIOR Published Aug. 5, 2008 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Airman 1st Class Shynice Douglas Security Forces entry controller Home unit/base: 37th Security Forces Squadron, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. How do you support the mission here? I support the mission by being the over-watch support for entry control points, ensuring all personnel have the proper credentials to enter the base and flightline. I assist with the surveillance of alarms and duress on the base and the perimeter. I also support the mission by ensuring my flight's moral is high, so they are stress free at work. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my first deployment and I think it will be my most memorable one. I have learned so much about my job and myself. I have also been rewarded for being a helping hand and a selfless team member after being awarded the Elizabeth Jacobson Honoree Award, which has been the highlight of my career. My flight and leadership have been here for me in many ways, and for that I will forever be grateful to them and their families. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? Since being deployed here, I've felt needed and very helpful at times. I have been active in putting on activities for my flight, volunteering for gym and squadron activities, and my education. I have learned to be unselfish of my time, wanting to do more for other people. This deployment has been a new leaf for me, and I hope to continue to be as active as I am now.
