Airman 1st Class Mercedes Swenson

Commander's administrator and information manager/unit travel representative

Home unit/base: 374th Maintenance Group, Yokota Air Base, Fussa, Japan

How do you support the mission here? As the unit travel representative my responsibility is to ensure that our maintainers get here on time.  I help ensure they have a smooth transition into the unit so we can continue our 98 percent mission effectiveness rating and also so our maintainers who have completed there mission can get home safely, smoothly, and on time. As a client support administrator it is my responsibility to make sure that the our maintenance mission is not delayed due to computer maintenance issues. If something is broke, I get it fixed, fast, the first time, so that it can go back out and be used by our maintenance professionals.

As the commanders administrator, it's my responsibility to ensure the group commander gets correspondence from our squadrons in a timely fashion, that the information is accurate and routed properly. In addition, I ensure the routing of our decorations, letters of evaluation, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal certificates and farewell packages are processed correctly so maintainers on the line are rewarded and recognized for their hard work.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my first deployment. This deployment is unique because the position that I am filling requires me to perform certain aspects of my job I'm not familiar with. These new daily duties have been a challenge for me.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? My job at my home station is primarily CSA. Here in the deployed environment I get to see the other side of career field which involves reviewing all decorations and awards packages for the entire group.
