ROCK SOLID WARRIOR Published June 11, 2008 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Staff Sgt. Rick Clark Electrician Home unit/base: 177th Fighter Wing, Atlantic City, N.J. How do you support the mission here? As an electrician, I do my part to ensure the uninterruptible electrical operation of base facilities and critical equipment. Maintenance and operation of electrical distribution equipment and airfield lighting used to support the wing's mission. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my first deployment. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? Believe it or not the job differs significantly. The electrical plugs and receptacles are different here. The supplied voltage is different than that in the states. Installations are challenging because conduit and wire sizes are metric, not standard, and there is a different color coding scheme here. Overall its been quite a learning experience.
