Staff Sgt. Cody Belt

Security Forces

Home unit/base: 354th Security Forces Squadron, Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska

How do you support the mission here? My mission here is to capture all third country national's biometrics and biographical data and ensure it is transferred to the Biometric Fusion Center in the states. I play a pivotal role in identifying possible criminals and terrorists that try to gain access to DoD installations. Operations include taking multiple facial pictures, hand measurements, finger prints and pictures of individuals. Additionally, I track over 2,500 contractor employed TCN's that require access to this location.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my second deployment to the Middle East. Managing the Defense Biometric Identification System operations has allowed me to make a positive impact by working with emerging technologies and submitting proposals to senior leadership at Air Forces Central Command on ways to improve operational effectiveness in the field. This is the wave of the future, both here and state-side, and having this job motivates my actions to keep the Air Force "Above All."

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? In the big picture my job is exactly the same ... keeping my fellow Airman safe. The only difference is here I am in an office with two other people operating equipment worth more than one million dollars, where as at Eielson, I am in charge of a 26-person flight working routinely in negative-40-degree weather. Either way if I fail to execute the mission successfully, people lives could be at risk and I won't take that chance here with my deployed family or back home with my fellow "Icemen."
