ROCK SOLID WARRIOR Published March 22, 2008 386th Expeditionary Medical Group SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Staff Sgt. Rebecca Place Contingency Aeromedical Staging Facility Medical Technician Home unit/base: 375th Medical Group, Scott Air Force Base, Ill How do you support the mission here? I am a liaison for patients between battlefield care and more definitive care at the larger hospitals such as the ones in Germany or back in the United States. I ensure patient comfort during any layovers that they may encounter while in the aeromedical evacuation system. I also help launch and recover aeromedical evacuation helicopter missions for patients that need to be moved quickly. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my third deployment and the patients that I see are what make it so unique. Being medical, I've seen a wide range of illness and injuries that I wouldn't normally get to see back home. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? At my home base I work in the obstetrician/gynecologist--OB/GYN clinic so all of the patients I see are female. While deployed I get to see and work male and female patients with everything ranging from battlefield injuries to the common cold.
