ROCK SOLID WARRIOR Published Jan. 25, 2008 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Master Sgt. Victoria Myers Aerospace Ground Equipment Flight Chief Home unit/base: 43rd Maintenance Squadron, Pope Air Force Base, N.C. How do you support the mission here? As the flight chief, I ensure our flightline customers have fully functional AGE equipment to sustain transient aircraft missions and C-130 airlift capabilities. We also provide liquid oxygen support on weekly basis for the 192nd Expeditionary Airlift Squadron located at an air base in Iraq which is vital to their mission success. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my third deployment supporting Operations Southern Watch, Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. This deployment is unique in that this is the last mass deployment for Pope Air Force Base as I was informed that it would realign soon under Base Realignment and Closure plan and most of the personnel on this deployment who came with me will be transferring to a new assignment upon our return from deployment. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? For the most part, my job does not change from home base to the deployment environment. There are more constraints on getting replacement parts for the AGE equipment that does slow down the repair process. Essentially, our daily operations here are a mirror image of our home station operations.
