Base recycling program starts Published Dec. 17, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Phillip Butterfield 386th Air Expeditionary Wing public affairs SOUTHWEST ASIA -- The base started a recycling program Dec. 7 that also filters money into military wellness and recreation programs here. This was the first step in leadership's efforts to minimize the base's waste. People can recycle water bottles, sports drink bottles and aluminum cans into the blue bins that have been distributed to work centers throughout the base. Blue bins have also been placed in the dining facility. "More importantly, for us at the local level, it conserves the limited amount of space we have available in the solid waste dumpsters," said Cecil Irby, 386th Civil Engineer Squadron environmental program manager. "It also shows our host nation's government that we are being good stewards of their land." In order for the MWR to claim its portion of the revenues, the blue recycling bins and broken down cardboard boxes must be taken to the base recycling center located next to the dog kennels on Jacobson Avenue. "It's long over due," said Master Sgt. Sam Stoecklin, 386th Air Expeditionary Wing command staff superintendent. "And with our MWR receiving proceeds from the recycling, how can you go wrong?"
