Rock Solid Warrior Published Oct. 31, 2007 586th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Senior Airman Thomas Williams Response force gun truck heavy weapons gunner Home unit/base: 99th Security Support Squadron, Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. How do you support the mission here? The 586th Expedition Security Forces Squadron has the most important job here at Camp Bucca, Iraq, because my squadron is responsible for base defense. We provide force protection for the theater internment facility, off-base patrols and to serve as a first line of defense for the forward operating base perimeter. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? I have deployed twice. Both deployments have been to Camp Bucca, Iraq. This deployment is unique because of many changes since my last deployment here -- so much more to do. How does your job differ in a deployed environment versus home base? My duties here at Camp Bucca are vital overall to national security and receive a lot of visibility because of the detainee operations mission here. What I do here on the war front must be a success for people to be safe on the home front.
