386th Expeditionary Mission Support Group, Det 1

Civil Enginer customer service NCO in charge

Home unit/base: First Civil Engineer Squadron, Langley Air Force Base, VA

How do you support the mission here? I manage the Civil Engineer Customer Service Desk. My section is responsible for processing all facility maintenance and repair requests to support operations for the Army Life Support Area. I currently provide customer service to 3000 plus permanent and transient personnel, ensuring all facility and infrastructure work requests are received, prioritized and completed in a timely manner. We process everything from emergency water or power outages to requests for major modifications to existing facilities.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? I have deployed 3 times. I am familiar with Civil Engineer Customer Service in a deployed environment; however this deployment is unique because we are supporting an Army mission. I currently interface with a diverse set of customers, to include an Army Personnel Support Battalion, Air Force Command Cell, Navy Customs unit, Australian Force Level Logistics Asset compound, and various other support and MWR organizations.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? Civil Engineer Customer Service is a challenging job at any location, but this deployment is different because all camp repairs and maintenance is completed by contract labor forces. It has been a challenge to learn the procedures quickly in order to meet the needs of the camp. I have enjoyed developing these working relationships with the contractor in order to ensure continued support to the LSA mission.
