Rock Solid Warrior Published Aug. 25, 2007 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Ssquadron SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Staff Sgt. Kevin Bruce Staff Sgt. Kevin Bruce 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron Electrician/Electrical Systems Journeyman Home unit/base: 45th Civil Engineer Squadron, Patrick Air Force Base, Fla. How do you support the mission here? I support the mission by maintaining the electrical distribution on the "Rock", as well as the electrical distribution on the airfield. We're the team that isn't noticed unless there is a power outage or something in your room or building isn't properly functioning electrically. We not only keep things functioning properly but improve the quality of life. We are here to support each and every individual deployed here, and it is our job to do this with great consistency. Without reliable electrical distribution, the mission would fail. So I take my job very seriously. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This deployment is unique to me because it is my first. The mission at the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing runs at a very high tempo and it's imperative that everyone maintains their mission focus. I am honored to be defending our nation in the United States Air Force. I have had many memorable experiences out here and plan to use them on future deployments. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? In the deployed environment you actually see how your job impacts the mission first-hand. Everything you do will have an affect on the overall mission. My job in the AOR is 24/7. We can not and will not fail. At my home base my job is a little more relaxed. The environment is less strenuous and the power grid is less demanding. We support Cape Canaveral and focus primarily on maintaining systems and infrastructure at Patrick AFB.
