586th Air Expeditionary Group

Security Forces Liaison Office NCO in charge

Home unit/base: 316th Security Forces Squadron, Andrews Air Force Base, Md..

How do you support the mission here? My team and I coordinate with multiple services for reception, staging, and onward integration. We prepare logistics coordination for Air Force Security Forces troops who are deploying and redeploying, to and from the United States, as well as coordinate the release of all personnel going on emergency leave, leaving on an early release. We also coordinate training and briefings specific to this location. We've also just been added to a list for a new program with the Wing which provides relaxation and recovery for troops deployed to Camp Bucca, Iraq.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my second deployment. The difference in this deployment is that I'm not necessarily providing a Security Forces mission; I get to step out of the career field and provide a different kind of support. Needless to say I'm providing support for my fellow Security Forces member's deployed at Camp Bucca, so it's very personal. It's unique because I'm put in a position of great importance; I'm responsible for movement of hundreds of Security Forces personnel to their deployed base and try to make that transition for them as painless as possible.

I take great pride in providing support for my fellow Security Forces members; I also provide additional support so whatever they need regardless if it may seem out of my reach it gets done. It's probably the only time in my nine years of military service when I will see the end result and feel a sense of accomplishment for all the hard work and endless hours that my team and I put into a mission once it's complete.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? Plans and Programs vs. LNO! In my job at my home base, I mainly accomplish my mission by sitting in front of the computer for eight to 10 hours, e-mailing and correcting operating instructions, the installation security instruction, the installation security plan, and more. At my deployed location, my job deals with interacting with Airmen, finding out what they need, then coordinating a solution for those needs. Needless to say, it gives me a sense of accomplishment and is very fulfilling.
