Rock Solid Warrior Published May 6, 2007 386 EMDG SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Staff Sgt. John Gibson Staff Sgt. John Gibson 386th Expeditionary Medicial Group/CASF 4N051, Aerospace Medical Technician Home unit/base: 911th Aeromedical Staging Squadron, Pittsburgh IAP ARS How do you support the mission here? At the CASF we are one of the major hubs for injured/ill soldiers, sailors, airmen , and marines that are being transported through the aeromedical evacuation system. We provide ground transport and provide medical care and treatment for the ill and injured. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my fourth rotation of being deployed to a CASF and the living conditions are what makes the "rock" very unique. It is not often that you get to work in hardened facilities in a deployed environment. This tour is also unique in that we have over 19 different units that compose the 386th Med Group, so I have got to meet a lot of new people. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? At home station I work in medical readiness and disaster preparedness. I do a lot of training for our wartime mission but I don't do a lot of hands on medical treatment. In the deployed environment I get to see the training that I do get put to the actual mission and we are caring for injured and ill war fighters and making sure that they can return to duty.
