Rock Solid Warrior Published May 4, 2007 SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Tech. Sgt. William L. Gates, Jr. Tech. Sgt. William L. Gates, Jr. 586th Expeditionary Mission Support Group, 70th Medium Truck Detachment 2T17, NCOIC, Training Home unit/base: 37th Logistics Readiness Squadron/Lackland AFB Texas How do you support the mission here? Working in training, I have the ability to ensure that all members receive the necessary required training in order to perform all tasks while deployed in the AOR. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? I've been deployed 2 times during my career. I was deployed once in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm and once in support of Operation IRAQI Freedom. This is so unique for 2T's because for the first time we are actually performing a job that really pertains to what were trained to do. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? There isn't much difference between the two jobs with the exception of the location. On one hand I dealt with civilians and on the other hand I deal with military members, both entities have certain requirements and guidelines that must be maintained.
