Unit: 386 Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron/Intelligence

1N031Intelligence Analyst/Aircrew Support Operations Intelligence

Home Unit: 43 OSS/IN Pope AFB, N.C.

How do you support the mission here? As an Intelligence Analyst I provide timely and actionable intelligence to C-130 aircrew so that they can fly to places like Baghdad, Balad and Mosul with full situational awareness of enemy activities. The crews use the information that I brief to make decisions on how to safely transport 40,000+ Army and Marine Corps personnel every month though out the combat zone.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my first deployment, and what surprised me about this job is that we support a lot more that just C-130 operations. We also work with Army C-12s, C-23s and UC-35s, transient C-17s, B-1Bs, Navy E-2C Hawkeyes, F-18s and a few coalition members. One of the things that I enjoy doing is working with our ROKAF and JASDF counterparts; we also provide a lot of support for them as well. Everyday there's always something new.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? Back home at Pope AFB I spend a lot of time training for the job that I do out here, whether it is studying threats or staying ahead on current intelligence, I am typically not directly involved with operators--that is why I really like what I'm doing out here. Deployed at the Rock, I am able to directly contribute to our wartime mission. I take pride in the kind of work that I do, in making sure the mission is accomplished and that the warfighter is safe.
