SOUTHWEST ASIA -- The 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Staff pulled off a sports coup on the Rock recently, defying expectations and grabbing victory in the face of adversity.

The Wing Staff defeated Security Forces in the 386th AEW softball championship on April 8, 2007. The final score was 13-10.

The Wing team was coached by Master Sgt. Christopher Moore, 386th AEW/ MEO Superintendent to a 7-1 regular season record. The team followed that up by going 3-0 in the playoffs.

"In the beginning of the season, few people gave us a chance," said Sgt. Moore. "We lost two of our key players, one to injury and one went on leave. We still managed to pull it off."

The game started off well for the Wing Staff, as they were leading 10-2 until the 5th inning, when the Security Forces team rallied to score 8 runs and tie the game.

"Security Forces played a heck of a game," Sgt. Moore said.

Yet the Wing managed to hang on and prevail, scoring three more runs and clinch the victory. The coach singled out pitcher Master Sgt. Jeffrey Statz, 386th Expeditionary Contracting Squadron, as doing an outstanding job, and picked shortstop Tech. Sgt. Jody Cummings, 386th Safety, as the Most Valuable Player.

"The players played as a team not as individuals," said Sgt. Cummings. "Everyone came together mentally and physically."
