The 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron emergency management team reached another milestone by being named the Joint Warning and Reporting Network team of the month by Air Forces Central Command.

This is not the first time the 386th emergency management team has been noticed as they won the same award only two months previously, highlighting the accomplishments of this all-Air National Guard team.

A total of 10 EM teams across the area of responsibility competed during the monthly competition that tests Airmen's ability to report, analyze, and disseminate Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear information.

"Each month CBRN cells within the AFCENT area of responsibility compete in a multi-faceted exercise to ensure continued vigilance and expertise is maintained," explained Chief Master Sgt. Lorne Peterson, 386th ECES emergency management team chief deployed from the 166th Civil Engineer Squadron, New Castle ANG Base, Delaware.

The competition requires each team to respond with the best answer to complex problems given in the shortest amount of time and provide commander recommendations. Airmen must be knowledgeable in topics such as organic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, radiology, physics, Department of Defense instructions, and JWARN operations, according to Peterson.

"Apart from being a great way to showcase the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing and its emergency management flight, it serves as a visible reminder of the versatility and excellence displayed by our Airmen," continued Peterson.

Lt. Col. Jason Glynn, commander of the 386th ECES, was very pleased with the performance of the EM team.

"I am very proud of this team for seeing a needed capability, bringing it to the 386th AEW, and demonstrating excellence under pressure."

Emergency managers provide technical expertise to commanders during full spectrum threat response and much of their work involves planning, preparing, educating and equipping base personnel in the event of a CBRNE or weapons of mass destruction attack. Additionally, they provide detection, monitoring, warning and reporting of such attacks and ensure the base is able to recover effectively in such an event.

Their training and preparedness is vital to operations within the AOR and exercises such as this helps to safeguard the personnel assigned to the 386th AEW through enhanced readiness.
