Command of the 387th Air Expeditionary Group passed from Col. James Dryjanksi to Col. Kevin Therrien during a change of command ceremony Sunday at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia.

Therrien deployed here from the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia where he served as the joint staff, strategic plans and policy, north and west Africa division chief.

Col. John Klein, 386th Air Expeditionary Wing commander, spoke highly of Dryjanski's accomplishments during his one year tenure.

"Jim is an intelligent, professional, and thinking leader who elevates those around him. He cares deeply and passionately about his organization and the Airmen under his command," said Klein. "Thank you for your engaged leadership, your compassion for your Airmen, and for being the face of the 386th to our host nation."

Dryjanski was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions and leadership before relinquishing his command. The medal is awarded to a person in any branch of the military service who, while serving in any capacity with the Armed Forces of the United States has distinguished himself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service, not involving participation in aerial flight, in connection with military operations against an armed enemy.

Klein also spoke of why Therrien was chosen to take command of the 387th.

"Therrien is an Air Force leader with a broad background of experience in leading diverse organizations and a depth of experience with air mobility operations, "said Klein. "He is the right man for the job. We could not have found a more well-suited leader to take over the 387th AEG."

Therrien has had a distinguished career in the Air Force since entering in 1991 as a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He has over 3,700 hours as a C-130E/H Hercules navigator and has also served as an instructor navigator and flight examiner.

"I'm very happy to be here today and to take command of the 387th AEG. I'm thrilled to work with so many talented and trustworthy patriots," said Therrien. "I look forward to representing you in all you that do, and serving as your next commander."

Dryjanski will be moving to Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas where he will command the 314th Airlift Wing.
