This week's Rock Solid Warrior is Senior Airman Brittany Beltran. Beltran is a pass and registration specialist with the 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron. The Toledo, Ohio native is deployed from the 81st Security Forces Squadron, Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi.

Q: What is your family's military heritage (anyone else in your family who was/is in the military?):
A: Several members of my family served in the Army including my Father and older brother. My Grandfather served in the Navy. I am the first in my family to serve in the Air Force.

Q: What is your mission here (in general terms)?
A: My mission is to manage access control for 5 DoD bases and control entry into restricted and controlled areas. I also validate base access for all military and coalition members.

Q: What are some of the best parts of your mission?
A: I get to meet and interact with almost everyone who enters the installation.

Q: What are some of the challenges you face while conducting your mission, and how do you overcome them?
A: The language barrier can be a tough challenge at times; I've had to overcome it by learning some of the local language to better assist with the process.
Filling an NCO role as a SrA is a challenge but one I look forward to and do my best to excel at. It gives me a chance to grow as a person and a leader.

Q: How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
A: I get to intermingle with Host Nation, Canadian and British Foreign Military here at The Rock.

Q: How many times have you deployed?
A: This is my second deployment.

Q: What makes this deployment unique?
A: This deployment is unique because I am not just doing my job and fulfilling the mission, but furthering my education as well and attending professional military education classes to become a better Airman. It has taught me a lot about time management.

Q: Why did you join the Air Force?
A: I joined the Air Force for many reasons including education, travel and to be a positive example to my nieces and nephew.
