This week's Rock Solid Warrior is Tech. Sgt. Delicia Rubio. Rubio is a logistics planner with the 737th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron. The Los Angeles native is deployed from the 146th Airlift Wing, Channel Islands Air National Guard Station, Calif.

Q: What is your family's military heritage (anyone else in your family who was/is in the military?
A: My mother served in the California Air National Guard and my uncle is currently serving there as well.

Q: What is your mission here (in general terms)?
A: My mission is to coordinate our four-ship redeployment plan of personnel and cargo back to home-station at the conclusion of our service here at the 737th EAS.

Q: What are some of the best parts of your mission?
A: The best part of my mission is being a part of getting people back home to their families and loved ones.

Q: What are some of the challenges you face while conducting your mission, and how do you overcome them?
A: The best plan almost never goes as planned. However, you learn how to adapt and overcome, making things easier the next time you're faced with a challenge; positive growth and adaptation become your new norm.

Q: How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
A: At home station you know your key players; you have your professional relationships and team. At a deployed location you have to build those relationships in a short period of time, but that hurdle challenges us to grow and mature our abilities as a cohesive Air Force. Airmen are given the opportunity to prove that no matter where you come from, people with a common purpose, such as service to their country, will do what they need to in order to help each other accomplish the mission. One team, one fight.

Q: How many times have you deployed?
A: This is my fourth deployment.

Q: What makes this deployment unique?
A: All my other deployments were solo, and this is my first with my unit and it is has been the best by far. It's like having a piece of home with you; we are a family.

Q: Why did you join the Air Force?
A: I wanted to be a part of something bigger. To serve our country, what could be bigger than that?
