Rock Solid Warrior: Staff Sgt. Jesse Galvan

This week's Rock Solid Warrior is Staff Sgt. Jesse Galvan. Galvan is a Military Working Dog Handler assigned to the 386th Expeditionary Security Force Squadron. The Fort Worth Tx. native is deployed from the 72nd Security Force Squadron, Tinker Air Force Base, Ok.

In his own words:

Q: What is your family's military heritage?
A: I have no family members in the armed forces.


Q: What is your mission here?
A: Mission is to deter, detect and detain intruders on base and its surrounding areas. MWDs provide a tremendous psychological deterrent to outside threats.


Q: What are some of the best parts of your mission?
A: Working and training alongside my K9 partner Ritz. Utilizing the MWD capabilities to safeguard the base and it's populous.


Q: What are some of the challenges you face while conducting your mission, and how do you overcome them?
A: A huge part is when sweeping around the same locations it tends to get repetitive and we continue to alter your routines every day; so that the yourself and the MWD doesn't get complacent.



Q: How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
A: Work tempo is greater; consistency in training is higher while Maintaining Combat ready posture. A greater number of Random Antiterrorism measure are taken and spread across the base.

Q: How many times have you deployed?
A: This is my Fifth time deployed.


Q: What makes this deployment unique?
A: This deployment is continuously challenging me on and off duty. I am on the 5/6 Council and a devoted member of the Defenders Association; continuously trying to advise and execute plans of actions to improve the Military Working Dog Section, 386 ESFS and the 386 Air Expeditionary Wing!


Q: Why did you join the Air Force?
A: I joined the United States Air Force to serve my country and achieve a higher education.
