This week's Rock Solid Warrior is Airman 1st Class Logan Reynolds. He is an administrative technician with the 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron. The Chillicothe, Ohio, native is deployed from the 355th Communications Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona.

Q: What is your family’s military heritage (anyone else in your family who was/is in the military?):
A: My grandfather was in the Air Force, but that is the only member in my family who has served.

Q: What is your mission here (in general terms)?
A:
My mission here is to understand how all the civil engineer jobs work. I am able to do this by getting out and talking to different members from each shop. Also, almost everyone in the squadron goes through my office to either get appointment letters signed, or to find out specific information about the squadron. I am also here to support my commander in any way possible. For example, I deal with his calendar every day to make sure no appointments conflict, and I route decorations and documents up to the group and wing.

Q: What are some of the best parts of your mission?
A:
I have a lot of additional duties throughout the squadron that keeps me busy, and that makes time go by fast. Also, I really like that as an administrator, I can go to any squadron. So it is nice to learn about how all the jobs in civil engineering work. It also helps me get to know more people.

Q: What are some of the challenges you face while conducting your mission, and how do you overcome them?
A:
I have a lot of people coming to me throughout the day asking questions, so it is hard to keep up with the tasks at hand. So I make checklists to keep myself on track.

Q: How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
A:
I have a lot more duties here than I do back home. For example, I am the security manager, functional area manager, records custodian, information assurance officer and unit mail rep. On top of all that, I have to do administrative work for my squadron commander. Also, at my home station I work at the communications squadron and here I work at the civil engineer squadron.

Q: How many times have you deployed?
A:
This is my first deployment.

Q: What makes this deployment unique?
A:
I like that there is wifi, almost all around base. Also, I also utilize the other amenities around the base to keep myself busy.

Q: Why did you join the Air Force?
A:
I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, and didn’t want to get myself in debt by going to school. So, I figured that working full time and going to school for free would be a great option. I also wanted to see the world! I have only been in the Air Force since January 2014, so I have gotten a quick start on seeing the world.
