Southwest Asia -- Editor’s note: The Rock Solid Warrior Program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission.
I’m Airman 1st Class James Lake, a 386th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron electronic warfare systems journeyman. I am deployed from the 755th AMXS at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz.
As an electronic warfare systems journeyman my job is to maintain the overall backend system of the EC-130 Hercules.
The best parts of my job are that it’s brain racking and I am able to see the impact it has on the mission. I’m always kept on my toes and get to figure out what maintenance needs to be done. These are the type of things that make me want to come to work every day.
I always wanted to join the military. I chose the Air Force because my original goal was to become a pilot, but I grew to love the maintenance side much more.
My professional goal now is to first get my Community College of the Air Force degree. Beyond that, I want to push to be the best I can be and learn everything I can about my job because I love what I do for the Air Force.
Some of my hobbies include building model cars and tearing apart electronics and putting them back together. I like to see how electronics work and hope they work after I put them back together. One of my personal goals is to get my degree in electrical engineering and go as far as I can with it.
