Southwest Asia -- I’m Senior Airman James Tennimon, a 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron munitions crew chief. I am deployed from the 649th Munitions Squadron at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. I joined the Air Force to serve my country and establish a solid stepping stone for my future.
As a munitions crew chief, my job is to store, account for, inspect, issue, ship, and build up munitions such as bombs and missiles. There isn’t too much of a difference here than at home station, we support units requiring munitions as well as countermeasures such as chaff and flare. The best part of my mission is building the chaff and flare mods that help our pilots come back safely after conducting missions.
The biggest challenge I face in my mission is learning the processes that differ from my home station. I overcome this challenge by remembering the training and experience I’ve obtained and applying it in the most practical way possible. I take what I learn and apply it to new tasks daily and keep an open mind to new possibilities.
My professional goals right now are to make staff sergeant, get my Community College of the Air Force degree, and be the best Airman I can possibly be. Some of my personal goals are to prepare for the Spartan races when I go back to home station and to enter a technical program for welding.
