SOUTHWEST ASIA -- I’m Senior Airman LaToya Walcott, a 386th Expeditionary Force Support Squadron PERSCO sustainment technician. I am deployed from the 186th Air Refueling Wing in Meridian, Mississippi. I joined the Air Force to have a greater sense of purpose in my life.
As a PERSCO sustainment technician, I am the liaison between the home-station commanders and the deployed location. My duties include: emergency leave, delayed reporting, waivers, casualty reporting, early releases, processing discrepancies, extensions, in and out-processing and other items for 75 different locations throughout the area of responsibility. The best parts of my mission are meeting new people from all aspects of life and assisting members in challenges they may be facing.
One challenge I face is making sure all members we are responsible for are accounted for at 100 percent. My mission as a personnelist at home station is providing customer service, here my main mission is personnel accountability. I overcome these challenges by staying organized; organization is the key in overcoming that challenge.
My professional goal in the military is to strive to become better at my job each and every day. I want to excel in whatever rank I hold and become that “go-to” Airman. My personal goals are to obtain my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. In my civilian profession I am a civil litigation paralegal; one day I plan to become a mediator.
Some of my hobbies include reading, baton twirling, baking, and spending time with my family.
