2012 CFC-O Offers BAF Airmen the Chance to Give

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, AFGHANISTAN -- Airmen at Bagram Airfield work hard every day to make a difference in Afghanistan. Now they have yet another way to help build a better world with the commencement of the annual Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas here, Sept. 17, 2012.

For the next two months, unit representatives will make their way around the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing offering deployed Airmen the opportunity to give to charities of their choice.

"Getting involved with the CFC-O is easy. Each Airman will be contacted by their unit's CFC representative. The CFC-O rep will have all of the necessary materials to research charities and can provide the Airmen information on the various ways to contribute to the campaign," said Capt. Jason Hasbrouck, 455 AEW Community Area Project Officer.

Established by Executive Order in 1961, the CFC is the only authorized charitable-giving drive for employees of the U.S. Department of Defense. Over the years, the CFC-O has become an effective and convenient way for Airmen overseas to help those in need.

"The CFC-O affords our Airmen the opportunity to give something to those less-fortunate individuals around this world; exemplifying the generosity and selflessness of the American Spirit. Through the CFC-O, even from a war-zone in Afghanistan, we can continue to support our charities and the noble causes they represent," said Brig. Gen. Joseph Guastella, 455 AEW commander.

Last year, the five combatant commands pledged nearly $14.3 million to various charities. This year's campaign features thousands of eligible charities and several of ways to donate.

"There are over 2,500 charities that participate in the CFC-O. Each unit CFC representative will have materials where Airmen can research each charity that they would like to support," Hasbrouck said. "Donating is very easy. Airmen can contribute with cash, check, payroll allotment, or even through an online payment system."
