The 455th Expeditionary Maintenance Group welcomed a new commander during a formal change of command ceremony here June 10.

Col. Geoffrey S. Bacon, previously assigned as the Deputy Weapons of Mass Destruction Division Chief, Directorate of Policy, Strategy, Partnering and Capabilities located at Headquarters United States European Command, Patch Barracks, Stuttgart-Vaihingen, Germany, assumed command of the 455th EMXG from Col. Tom D. Miller.

"It's another important day for the 455th (AEW) ... Colonel Bacon is the perfect choice to lead this unit at the tip of the spear in our Air Force," said Brig. Gen. Darryl Roberson 455th Air Expeditionary Wing commander and officiating officer. "I know he is ready to take on the challenge of having airplanes ready to fly and weapons ready to do their job."

"I look forward to working with you for the next year as we continue to bring the fight to the enemy," said General Roberson.

"We're going to support the fight, defend the base and win ... and in large part it will be because of your efforts," he said.

General Roberson continued by commending the work of previous maintenance group commander and the Airmen serving him.

"It has been one heck of a tour for Colonel Miller," the general explained. "During this last year Colonel Miller has seen quite a bit of activity, more than 31,000 sorties generated and over 81,000 flying hours ... accomplishing a feat in a matter of months what typically takes years."

He continued by thanking Col. Miller for all the hard work, and the impact to not only the maintenance group but also the 455th AEW as a whole.

Colonel Miller's next assignment is as the vice commander, Ogden Air Logistics Center, Hill AFB, Utah.
