Airmen assigned to the 455th Expeditionary Mission Support Group welcomed their new commander during a formal change of command ceremony here, July 9, 2010.

Col. Jeffrey R. Hunt, previously assigned to U.S. African Command, assumed command from Col. Christopher A. Pike.

"Jeff, welcome to the team and welcome to the fight," said Brig. Gen. Jack Briggs II, the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing commander and officiating officer. "As you assume command of this group, do not try to fill Colonel Pike's shoes. Instead, stand on his shoulders as you take this group to an even higher level of performance, discipline and execution. That performance, discipline and execution are what distinguishes the 455th EMSG and the 455th AEW as key members of the joint fight."

General Briggs noted the new group commander's breadth of experience as key to success in his new mission.

"Colonel Hunt has served in both the enlisted and officer ranks around the world from Korea, to the UK to Africa," Gen. Briggs said. "This three-time squadron commander could not be more prepared to assume group command."

"I'm excited by the opportunity to command the EMSG," said Colonel Hunt. "It is a defining moment in my life and I'll do my best to serve you [General Briggs] and to serve these Airmen."

In shadowing Colonel Pike over the last eight days getting to know the mission and Airmen of the EMSG, Col. Hunt said, "what I have seen is incredible. The teamwork and accomplishments are just staggering. It is my honor and privilege to be the next in line to continue that tremendous success."

Colonel Pike's next assignment is with the 21st Expeditionary Mobility Task Force as the vice commander at McGuire Air Force Base, N.J.
