PRT dedicated to development in Kapisa

BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan --  Members of the Kapisa and Parwan Provincial Reconstruction Team conducted site surveys and inspections of road projects and a girls school in Afghanistan's Kapisa Province, July 27.

Kapisa and Parwan PRT commander, U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. W. Mark Heiser led the mission, with a team including civil engineer, Air Force 1st Lt. Anthony Raffaele, who conducted quality assurance checks of the Tagab District Center road, Alasay district road, Afghanya road, Kohi girl's school, and multiple schools and road projects in Nijrab district.

"The overall mission objective was to ensure engineers are producing the best product possible for the people of Afghanistan," said Heiser.

Following the quality assurance checks, the PRT conducted a meeting with Tagab district leaders regarding their concerns about road width.

"Making an impact on the common person with quick improvement projects is a primary objective of the PRT," said Heiser.

He added that the team's mission also provided opportunities to synchronize development efforts and build relationships with the people of Kapisa.

The construction of the roads and schools will be continued throughout the remainder of 2009.

"Our hope is to have all the projects that began before our arrival  completed before our departure," said Raffaele, whose team assumed mission responsibilities July 17 and will work primarily in Kapisa province for the next eight months.

"Roads are critical to Afghanistan's prosperity," said Task Force Warrior civil military affairs officer, Army Lt. Col. William Conrad.

Conrad said he is very excited about the hundreds of kilometers of road construction underway in Kapisa, Parwan, Panjshir and Bamyan provinces.
