Eight Militants detained while targeting Taliban Published Oct. 18, 2008 By U.S. Forces Afghanistan KABUL, Afghanistan -- Eight militants were detained during multiple Coalition forces operations to disrupt an improvised explosive device cell and the Taliban terrorist network in Ghazni Province, Friday. Coalition forces conducted two operations in Andar District, targeting militants associated with the Taliban terrorist network believed to coordinate and direct IED attacks in the region. The targeted militants are also suspected to be affiliated with anti-coalition militant leaders who facilitate the movement of foreign fighters into Afghanistan that injure and kill innocent civilians, GIRoA and Coalition forces. The search of a compound in Andar netted the targeted militant and two other suspected militants without incident. A second operation resulted in the capture of the second targeted militant. In Waghez District, Coalition forces targeted a third Taliban militant, also believed to coordinate attacks intended to destabilize the region and injure and kill innocent civilians and Coalition forces. As the force approached the suspected militants, two failed to comply with directions from the force. After repeated commands, one of the militants displayed hostile intent and was engaged with small arms fire, wounding him. Coalition forces provided medical care, on the scene, to the injured militant and transported him to a Coalition force's medical treatment facility for further medical care. Four other militants were detained without incident.
