Khas Oruzgan to re-open schools Published Oct. 18, 2008 By U.S. Forces Afghanistan KABUL, Afghanistan -- Afghan National Security Forces and Coalition forces attended a security council meeting Thursday with local leaders in Khas Oruzgan District, Oruzgan province. During the meeting, local leaders discussed the importance of re-establishing an educational system in their community. The District security council then elected to re-open all schools in the Khas Oruzgan area and have them operational year round. The district chief has tasked the educational minister with re-opening the schools within one week and compiling a list of teachers to educate the students. "The children are the biggest winners here today," said a Coalition forces spokesperson. "A whole new world of opportunity has opened for them, and the Khas Oruzgan area will reap the benefit of re-opening their schools and empowering their children for generations to come."
