The operation in Rashidan District targeted a Taliban subcommander who was believed to have coordinated direct attacks against Afghan and Coalition forces. According to intelligence, the Taliban subcommander also facilitated the movement of foreign fighters into the area. During the operation, as Coalition forces approached the armed militant Taliban, they failed to follow the Coalition forces' commands and instead attempted to engage Coalition forces. Coalition forces responded to the threat, killing five militants, including the targeted subcommander. A search of the area where the operation took place produced five AK-47s and magazines; two pistols; multiple hand grenades; and military style clothing.
