Haqqani network targeted again in Khowst Published Sept. 14, 2008 By Combined Joint Task Force - 101 Combined Press Information Center BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan -- Afghan National Police and Coalition forces killed several armed militants and detained two suspected militants while targeting the Haqqani terrorist network during an operation in Khowst province, Saturday. The operation targeted a suspected Haqqani militant in Sabari District who works with other Haqqani subcommanders to carry out IED attacks. As ANP and Coalition forces approached the targeted compound, multiple militants, armed with AK-47s, exited the facility and began maneuvering on the force. The force ordered the militants to cease their actions and surrender. Ignoring the order and displaying hostile intent, Coalition forces used precision airstrikes in an open field to prevent the militants' movement on the force. Coalition forces then engaged the militants with small-arms fire, killing several. Two other militants, also attempting to maneuver on the force, were detained during the operation.
