Coalition forces target IED network in Paktika Published Sept. 5, 2008 By Combined Joint Task Force - 101 Combined Press Information Center BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan -- Coalition forces killed several militants and detained five during an operation to disrupt an IED network in Paktika province, Friday. Coalition forces searched a compound in the Bermel District targeting a militant known to coordinate and direct IED attacks against Afghan and Coalition Forces. The targeted militant is also known to be associated with Taliban commanders, both locally and abroad, who coordinate and facilitate the flow of foreign fighters into Afghanistan. Most recently, this terrorist network has been tied to roadside bomb attacks that have injured innocent civilians, ISAF and Coalition forces throughout the region. As Coalition forces searched the compound, they received small-arms fire from militants inside the building. The force returned fire, eliminating the enemy threat.
