Militants killed and detained, local woman injured Published Aug. 16, 2008 By Combined Joint Task Force - 101 Combined Press Information Center BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan -- An Afghan woman was medically evacuated after she was injured during a Coalition forces' operation to disrupt militant activities in Kapisa province, Friday. Coalition forces searched a compound in Tag Ab District. The operation targeted a Taliban commander responsible for smuggling foreign fighters into Afghanistan and facilitating IED attacks against Coalition and ISAF forces. During the operation, multiple groups of armed militants engaged the force. Coalition forces responded with airstrikes and small-arms fire, killing the militants. A woman located with the militants was wounded during the exchange of small-arms fire. Six other women and 11 children were also present but were unharmed during the operation. Coalition medical personnel immediately treated her injuries at the scene and transported her to a Coalition medical facility for further care. Coalition medical evacuation standards require that male family members escort female patients to the medical facility whenever possible. There were no male family members in the immediate area. The injured woman's condition required immediate medical evacuation. Coalition forces are coordinating for a male family member to travel to the hospital.
