Coalition forces and Afghan National Security Forces killed more than three dozen militants over two days of fierce fighting in Southern Afghanistan Aug. 13-15.

Several groups of militants engaged an ANSF and Coalition forces reconnaissance patrol over a two day period with machine guns, RPGs and small arms. ANSF and Coalition forces returned fire with small arms and close air support.

Multiple vehicles and enemy fighting positions were destroyed by ANSF and Coalition forces. They also seized several RPGs, weapons, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and a large opium cache.

In the most recent battle, two Afghan villagers were wounded by shrapnel from an air strike. Coalition forces medically evacuated the 46 year-old woman and four year-old girl to a Coalition medical facility for treatment.

No ANSF, Coalition forces, civilian casualties or additional wounded were reported.
