"The Coalition regrets the death of these non-combatants," Lt. Col. Rumi Nielson-Green, Coalition spokesperson said. "We are planning to conduct a full and thorough investigation." The operation targeted a Taliban militant known to coordinate foreign fighter operations. As Coalition forces approached a compound, they were threatened by several armed militants. The force responded with small-arms fire, killing the militants and inadvertently killing four women and a child located with them. Four other children on the compound were unharmed. Several militants were killed and three were detained. Coalition forces discovered IED materials in the compound and destroyed them. During a search of the area, a military working dog bit a woman on the arm; however the bite did not break the skin. Coalition medical personnel examined her and determined that no medical treatment was necessary.
