Approximately 30 local Afghan reporters visited Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan May 29 to participate in a media day.

The media day was aimed at informing the media on the operations at Bagram and how the U.S. military is working alongside coalition partners to support and defend freedom in Afghanistan.

The media spent most of the day receiving briefings from different units at Bagram and how those units' differing missions come together for a bigger picture of how the military and it's partners work together.

After their briefings, the media arrived on the flightline to a static display of an F-15E, and A-10 and a C-130.

As the media gathered around the A-10 display where Capt. Doug Witmer, 354th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron A-10 pilot, stood ready to provide the media with a thorough briefing on the A-10 and its function in the fight.

After the A-10 familiarization, the media moved to the F-15E, where Staff Sgt. Kerry Pliler, 455th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron crew chief, was there to brief them on the Strike Eagle's capabilities and processes in maintaining the aircraft.

Finally, the media was allowed to take an inside tour of the C-130, led by its crew, to find out just how many different capacities the Hercules could operate in, from airlift to medevac.

As the media gathered to leave, they expressed their thanks and appreciation for the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the aircraft that support and defend the freedom of their nation.
