Check Six coming to Bagram Published Aug. 30, 2014 By Master Sgt. Cohen A. Young 455th Air Expeditionary Wing Public Affairs BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- Whether deployed or at home station personal safety and force protection are always a top priority. Airmen assigned here will soon participate in the Check Six program. According to Staff Sgt. Noah Piepenbrink, Check Six cadre, 455th Expeditionary Base Defense Squadron, the program helps prepare Airmen to deter, detect, and defeat insider threats by increasing their awareness, vigilance, and resiliency through initial and recurring training. U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. David Goldfein, Director, Joint Staff, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. started the program Aug. 12, 2012 when he was the U.S. Air Force Central Command commander. "The first line of effort is base wide immersion though advertising," said Piepenbrink "Airmen on Bagram should expect to see Check Six posters and fliers in all common areas to include living, work, and morale, welfare and recreation facilities." The posters will announce the program and what lies ahead for them, while getting Airmen in the habit of checking their surroundings and not becoming complacent. The second phase involves security assessments, close quarters combatives and tactical movements under fire, battle drills, and office visits. "The end result is for Airmen of the 455th will be more capable and more confident when a wolf in sheep's clothing comes bearing its teeth in our compound," said Piepenbrink.
