Staff Sgt. Danielle Garcia, 455th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron instruments and flight controls systems technician, helps manage the control systems for the C-130J Super Hercules aircraft, allowing pilots to complete their mission here.

Garcia performs repairs for the navigational system that pilots use to fly. She also performs electrical work on the guidance and control system, altitude control and the primary flight controls.

“Without my team here, the C-130s would have trouble getting off the ground. It doesn’t take a lot for our systems to go down, and we need to be there to perform those quick repairs and get the plane back in flying status,” Garcia said. “The job is pretty challenging. Sometimes it takes time and thinking outside the box to figure out what’s going on with the systems. It’s not always simple, and I love the challenge it brings.”

Garcia is part of the “1000s of Hands” of 455 AEW Airmen who are crucial to the wing’s mission to generate and sustain airpower on the combat frontier of Afghanistan’s NATO’s Resolute Support mission and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. The “1000s of Hands” project highlights Vulture Airmen who have a hand in delivering a blanket of steel, technology and courage to protect the force in the field and support Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.
