KUNAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Fazlullah Wahidi, Kunar provincial governor, Dr Asadullah Fazli, provincial Director of Public Health and Pashtoon Azfar, Afghan Midwife Committee chief take turns cutting the ribbon commemorating the opening of the Kunar Midwifery Program training center in Asadabad, Afghanistan, Dec. 22. The midwifery program will train 24 women from Kunar province in an 18-month long course on providing prenatal and post partum care to expectant mothers and their babies to decrease infant mortality rates.
