Joint STARS: Soldiers team with combat aircrews to engage enemy
Army Staff Sgt. Tim Harris, 128th Expeditionary Airborne Command and Control Squadron Airborne Target Surveillance supervisor (center), reviews a JSTARS track with fellow aircrew members Maj. Jon Pindle (left) and Capt. Dan Willems during a recent mission. Together, the Air Force and Army aircrew provide a comprehensive look at the “ground picture” of radar targets in Iraq, and report the information to multiple locations throughout the theater using several advanced datalinks. Developing a common understanding of the situation helps JSTARS ensure the best possible radar top cover to coalition forces in Operation Iraqi Freedom. (U.S. Air Force photo)
