EOD Training

Staff Sgt. George Schmalz, an explosive ordnance disposal technician, places a Percussion Actuated Neutralizer (PAN) shell in place during a training scenario, June 12, 2009, in an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia. The PAN shell is used to project a shot of water out of the tube and into the suspect item. Sergeant Schmalz hails from Enola, Penn. and is deployed from Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and Combine Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa.
