Staff Sgt. George Schmalz, an explosive ordnance disposal technician, places a Percussion Actuated Neutralizer (PAN) shell in place during a training scenario, June 12, 2009, in an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia. The PAN shell is used to project a shot of water out of the tube and into the suspect item.
