Searching For Hidden Dangers
Staff Sgt. Josette Francis, a 379th Expditionary Maintenance Squadron Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) inspector, places a sample of jet engine oil from a Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (J-STAR) aircraft into a spectrometer to check for contaminating elements or metal fragments which could cause engine damage, May 14, 2009, at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia. The oil sample is being checked as part of the Joint Oil Analysis Program (JOAP) which tests oil samples from various locations in the U.S. Central Command's Area of Responsibility to ensure lubricants are performing properly. Sergeant Francis hails from Washington, D.C. and is deployed from Aviano Air Base, Italy in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa.
