“We did a party before I left, at my kids’ school. It was important to celebrate the day before I left. My girls liked it. They did a card and all that. I’m expecting pictures in the mail soon. I don’t really explain too much to them; they’re too little. I just say, ‘Daddy’s in the desert.’ It’s different being in the Guard because I’m home most of the time.
